Downeaster 45s are widely recognized for their distinctive clipper bow, hourglass transom stern and full displacement keel. They were engineered and built by American craftsmen to accommodate the very special demands of blue water cruisers, and are highly sought after today.

Her one piece hull is hand laid up and double laminated to the top of the boot, with triple laminations on centerline. The internal ballast is sculpted and faired to conform to hull shape. All through hull fittings below the waterline are solid bronze seacocks. The deck to hull glance is epoxied and mechanically fastened. For added strength, the deck is a lamination of fiberglass and a high density closed cell material instead of balsa or plywood. All deck fittings are back-plated for extra safety. The engine room is large enough for easy inspection and maintenance and sound proofed with 1.5” foam.

Careful consideration was given to the interior to ensure live aboard comfort, with three enclosed double staterooms separate from the main salon. The owner’s stateroom is aft, and contains a king size bert, abundant hanging lockers and storage compartments. A vanity and adjoining head and shower help make any voyage a pleasure.

The main salon features a large setee that can be converted into a queen size berth. The large galley features full length cabinetry and can supply even the longest cruise.

The cutter rigged boat can easily be handled by a crew of two. Because of her ultimate stability, the DownEaster 45 stays dry and comfortable even in heavy winds. Any cruiser that truly wants to voyage should closely consider a Downeaster 45.
