At age 24, Billy Sparrow bought an old wooden sailboat in Seattle and set off to fulfill a dream of cruising to California’s Channel Islands. Along the way, and through many trial and error moments, young Billy learns what it takes to operate his new-to-him vessel and navigate it towards his dreams.
In Tranquility: A memoir of an American sailor, Sparrow regales readers with the trials, tribulations and realities of sailing not only upon Puget Sound, but out in the Pacific Ocean.
As he finds out, his dream of an idyllic summer cruise down the coast to an island paradise is met with the realities of what it actually takes to captain a boat down the coast. His voyage quickly turns into an unbelievable never-ending saga that captivates readers. Tranquility is a universal tale of youth told with affection, wisdom, romance and life learning, for landlubber and sailor alike.
