So when the more-than-century-old maritime business says it is cleaning out the rafters for a huge sale, it is worth taking notice.
“It involves just about everything in the store,” said president and co-owner Jim Wheat. “Optics, charts, books, knives, telescopes, you name it.”
The sale runs until July 18, with items discounted by as much as 70 percent.
And man, are there a lot of items at Captain’s. The low-key store on 15th Ave West in Seattle is a treasure trove for active and armchair sailors alike, featuring a huge selection of nautical items and instruments — as well some of the most knowledgeable staff in the industry.
Binoculars and compasses share space with an incredible selection of charts, globes, safety equipment and flags, just to name a few.
For this sale, the staff dug through every nook and cranny in the store looking for items to sell at a discounted rate. There is sure to be something for salts old and new.
“We found items that have been here for 40 years,” Wheat said. “There are some interesting things that were rolled up and stuffed in the back long ago.”
